Low semi-woody perennials or shrubs. Leaves alternate, simple, fleshy. Flowers bisexual, solitary and sessile in axils; perianth cup-shaped, 5-lobed, deeply slit between 2 lobes (radicular slit); stamens 5. Fruiting perianth globular or depressed at apex, succulent with firm or woody inner layer, radicular slit persisting but fleshy margins overlapping; wing absent or forming a shallow, undulate cup around apex of perianth; pericarp crustaceous above, membranous below; seed horizontal, testa membranous.
Endemic Australian genus of 2 species.
