Salm-Dyck ex Webb & Berthel PinwheelPerennial shrub to c. 1 m tall; branches ascending, 3–10 mm diam., glabrous, rooting at nodes; leaf scars 2–5 mm wide, 1–2.5 mm long. Rosette to c. 12 cm diam.; leaves obovate, 10–65 mm long, 10–26 mm wide, c. 3–7 mm thick, glaucous, grey-green, glabrous, upper surface concave, apex acute and often recurved, base cuneate, margins usually reddish with cilia 0.2–0.7 mm long. Inflorescence dome-shaped, 7–40 cm long, 10–30 cm diam., glabrous; peduncles 7–20 cm long; pedicels 2–4 mm long. Flowers erect; sepals 7–9, triangular, 2–4 mm long, apex acuminate, green; petals 7–9, lanceolate, 7–9 mm long, apex acuminate, cream with green midrib; stamens 6–8.5 mm long; nectary glands whitish; ovaries white, glabrous, styles c. 3.5 mm long, white to pinkish. Seeds ovoid, 0.5–0.75 mm long, c. 0.3 mm wide, brown. Flowers spring–summer.
VVP, GipP, OtP, CVU, HSF. Also naturalised WA, SA, Tas. Native to the Canary Islands. Recorded as naturalised at a number of sites in the Geelong area, Black Rock, Coimadai, and at Studley Park. Established from discarded garden refuse.
