Achillea
Perennial rhizomatous herbs. Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, entire to pinnatisect. Capitula many, small, pedunculate, radiate or discoid, usually in branched corymbs, rarely few together or solitary; involucral bracts c. 3-seriate, unequal, outer ones shorter; receptacle flat or convex. Ray florets (when present) female, 1-seriate; tube more or less flattened; ligules short, ovate to orbicular, 3-lobed, usually spreading, white, yellow, pink or mauve. Disc florets bisexual; corolla funnel-shaped, 5-lobed, white, yellow or pink; anthers caudate with an ovate appendage; style with linear, truncate branches, apices papillose. Ray and disc cypselas similar, more or less compressed, smooth; pappus absent.
About 85 species, from Europe and Asia; 3 species naturalised in Australia.
