Stems 0.5–2 mm long, red-brown. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, 1–2 mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm wide, moderately concave, incurved around capsule when dry; apex acute, without hairpoint; laminal cells mostly 39–60 μm long, 18–27 μm wide, 75–180 μm long, 35–60 μm wide at base; alar cells slightly inflated but not distinct. Setae c. 0.1 mm long, 0.4 mm long including basal sheath, orange-brown or brown. Capsules 400–500 μm wide.
Wim, VVP, MSB, RobP. Widespread but scattered throughout the central and western parts of the state on the embankments of waterways and exposed seasonally inundated sites. Also SA, NSW and Tas. New Zealand and Japan.
