Stems prostrate to ascending, to 15 cm long, mostly glabrous but often densely hairy beneath inflorescence. Leaves narrowly triangular to c. linear, 3–16 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, glabrous to conspicuously hairy, base dilated, margins often hyaline. Compound heads c. 2–5 mm diam.; bracts subtending compound heads 16–40, outer bracts leaf-like, grading into narrower, distally papillate inner bracts. Capitula 10–45 per compound head; capitular bracts c. elliptic or obovate, 1.9–3.3 mm long. Cypselas c. 1 mm long. Flowers Aug.–Dec.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VVP, VRiv, MSB, RobP, MuF, Gold, GGr, DunT, NIS. Also WA, SA, NSW. In Victoria largely confined to mallee areas of the north-west, often occurring on the margins of saline depressions, but with scattered occurrences eastwards to the Whipstick Scrub near Bendigo.
