Cordyline stricta

Shrub to 5 m high, sometimes sprawling and branched near base. Leaves linear, 30–50 cm long and 1–2 cm wide, many nerved, the midrib broader than the rest; petiole indistinct, only slightly narrower than remainder of leaf. Panicle 20–40 cm long, each branch subtended by a leaf like bract; bracts subtending flowers c. 3–4 mm long; pedicels 1.5–2.5 mm long; perianth segments oblong, bluish, unequal, outer tepals 4–8 mm long, inner ones 8–9.5 mm long, finally reflexed; stamens exceeding outer perianth segments; style 3-lobed. Berry globose, 8–15 mm diam.; purple to black; seeds c. 3.5 mm long, ± comma-shaped.
