Small epiphytic ferns. Rhizome creeping, thread-like. Lamina irregularly pinnate or lobed, veins in ultimate segments branching several times. Sori marginal on pinnae; indusium tubular. Receptacle fine, projecting from indusium. Sporangia large.
About 15 species from temperate regions of the Southern Hemisphere; 1 species in Australia.
Recently expanded to include some species previously included in Trichomanes L. (Ebihara et al. 2006)
