Cryptandra magniflora
F.Muell.Usually twiggy to divaricate shrubs to c. 1 m high; branchlets usually lacking spines. Leaves sessile to very shortly petiolate, terete, 1.5–5 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, grooved beneath, upper surface glabrous and sometimes minutely tuberculate, midrib beneath with simple hairs; stipules triangular to ovate, 1.2–2 mm long, acute. Flowers sessile or subsessile, in short axillary clusters of up to 10; bracts dark brown to black, ovate to elliptic, 1.6–4 mm long, acuminate, ciliate on margins; perianth tubular, 3.5–6 mm long, white; basal tubular part 1.5–2.6 mm long, densely stellate-pubescent; sepals 1.8–3.5 mm long, pubescent with dense stellate and appressed simple hairs; petals 0.9–1.5 mm long; style minutely 3-lobed at summit, glabrous or with a few stellate hairs at base. Fruit 2.8–3 mm long.
LoM, MuM, RobP. Moderately common in mallee vegetation, mostly on deep sands, north of Ouyen (e.g. Sunset Country, Hattah Lakes, Redcliffs).
Previously, but erroneously, regarded in Victoria as Cryptandra propinqua A.Cunn. ex Fenzl which occurs in Queensland and New South Wales.
