Shrub to 3 m high; bark hard. Leaves suberect, linear, often thick, sometimes almost terete, 1–2 cm long, 0.75–1.5 mm wide, pungent, oil glands mostly on lower surface. Flower spikes mostly 3–4 cm long, 1.5–2.2 cm wide, axis pubescent at flowering; hypanthium mostly hairy; stamens golden-yellow or cream, sometimes tinged with green or pink, 6–11 mm long, anthers dark yellow. Capsules 3–5 mm long and wide. Flowers Nov.–Feb.
CVU, NIS, EGU, HSF, HNF, MonT, HFE, VAlp. Also Qld, NSW. Widespread in subalpine to alpine regions along rocky streams, fringing wet heaths or bogs, or in seepage areas, often forming dense thickets.
