Tecticornia indica subsp. leiostachya
(Benth.) K.A.Sheph. & Paul G.WilsonShrubs to c. 40 cm high. Articles thick, cylindric to obovoid, slightly lobed, ciliolate. Spikes ellipsoid to cylindric, the lowest bract pair smaller than, or equal in size to those above it. Fruiting perianth spongy, pericarp hard, horny all over. Seed ovate, testa smooth and glossy. Flowers mainly winter.
LoM, MuM, Wim, VRiv, MSB, RobP. Also WA, NT, SA, Qld, NSW. Locally common around salt lakes and flats in far north-western Victoria, usually in mixed stands with other species of Tecticornia, extending eastwards to the Kerang area, uncommon in the Jeparit area to the south.
