Philonotis australiensis
D.G.Griffin & W.R.BuckStems erect, to 5 mm long, rarely branched. Leaves erect-spreading when moist, erect when dry, ovate-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 0.22–0.6 mm long, 0.115–0.2 mm wide; apices acuminate; costae extending c. 2/3 leaf length; margins entire to bluntly denticulate toward apices, plane, without a border; laminal cells short-rectangular, irregular near apex and margins, 12–60 μm long, 7–16 μm wide, smooth. Setae 5–10 mm long. Capsules erect to pendent, globose to oblong, rarely urceolate, symmetric, c. 0.8 mm long. Operculum conic, umbonate, c. 0.2 mm long. Peristome absent.
LoM, Wim, GleP, VVP, OtP, WaP, CVU, GGr, WPro, VAlp. Widespread, mostly throughout the south of the state, on moist soils in sheltered habitats, but infrequently collected.
