Herb to 35 cm high, largely glabrous; corm less than 2 cm long, with a fibrous cap. Roots fibrous. Leaves linear, keeled, V-shaped in section, 9–35 cm long, 3–15 mm wide. Inflorescences 1–2, 15–25 cm long, c. 1.5 mm wide; bracteole 11–17 cm long, closely sheathing stem. Flowers solitary, 30–70 mm wide, perianth spreading, white, cream or yellow, rarely pink, often with a prominent band or spot near base, the lower surface often iridescent green or blue; stamens shorter than the lobes, subequal; ovary 2–3-locular, 10–18 mm long. Capsule cylindrical, 20–28 mm long; seeds numerous, minute. Flowers spring.
GipP, EGU. Native to the Cape Region of South Africa. Known from a single population on a roadside near Frankston. However, this population is possibly now extinct due to development of land in the area.
