Psiloclada
Epiphytic and on logs, rarely lithophytic, dioecious. Specialised asexual propagules absent. Stems prostrate, freely and regularly 1–2-pinnate, with two ranks of lateral leaves and a third rank of underleaves; branches emerging from main stem abaxial to a modified lateral leaf with fewer lobes and without a collar of tissue at base or emerging from near underleaves and with a collar of tissue at base. Lateral leaves asymmetrically obtrapezoidal in outline, 5–9-lobed, succubous, alternate, with base patently spreading from stem, remote to contiguous, entire, collectively dark green, unistratose; lobes unequal, getting larger toward abaxial side of stem, 2–7 cells long, with the terminal cell of each lobe greatly elongated and ± perpendicular to other lobe cells and pointing towards stem apex. Underleaves obtrapezoidal in outline, 3–6-lobed, symmetric, smaller than lateral leaves, remote; lobes 2–3 cells long, with the terminal cell of each lobe greatly elongated and ± perpendicular to other lobe cells and pointing towards stem apex. Leaf cells smooth, without oil bodies, those forming apex of lobe setiform, thin-walled, hyaline, those elsewhere in leaves quadrate to polygonal, isodiametric, evenly thick-walled, without trigones. Rhizoids clustered at base of underleaf. Androecia forming a short branch emerging from underleaves. Sporophyte at apex of short branch comprising 1–2 series of bracts and emerging from abaxial side of main stem. Perianth ovoid, terete at base becoming trigonous toward mouth; mouth 3-lobed, with ciliate margins. Capsule ellipsoid, bistratose; elaters bispiral. Spores granular-vermiculate, light brown.
