JeanesFlowering stem erect, straight, 22–45 cm tall, 2–5 mm diam., glaucous, purplish. Leaf linear to linear-lanceolate, attenuate, 10–30 cm long, 5–20 mm wide, leathery, canaliculate, ribbed abaxially, sheathing at base, dark green with a purplish base, glaucous. Inflorescence 2–12-flowered, loose. Sterile bracts 2, 3 or 4, glaucous, lower ones often large and leaf-like. Perianth segments ovate to obovate or lanceolate, (7–)10–13(–15) mm long,medium blue with darker longitudinal veins. Column slender, 5–6 mm long, white to pale blue; mid-lobe expanded into hood over the anther, semi-cylindric, gently curved, dark blackish brown, apex shallowly bilobed, yellow; lateral lobes converging 1.2–2 mm long, digitiform to somewhat compressed, curved upwards, each with a terminal mop-like tuft of short white hairs not embracing apex of mid-lobe. Anther inserted about mid-way along column, shortly beaked. Flowers Oct.–Nov.
